Ingredients
- 1 cuptoor dal
- 1 tbsptamarind pulp
- 1 piecesdrumstick (moringa) pods, cut
- 1 wholepearl onions
- 1 mediumtomato, diced
- 1 tbspsambar powder
- 1 tspmustard seeds
- 1 wholedried red chilies
- 1 leavescurry leaves
- 1 tbspoil
- 1 cupssteamed rice
- 1 tspsalt
Ingredients
- 0.5 cup toor dal
- 2 tbsp tamarind pulp
- 2 pieces drumstick (moringa) pods, cut
- 6 whole pearl onions
- 1 medium tomato, diced
- 2 tbsp sambar powder
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 whole dried red chilies
- 12 leaves curry leaves
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 cups steamed rice
- 1.5 tsp salt
Instructions
- Cook toor dal with water and turmeric until mushy; mash and set aside.
- Dissolve tamarind in 2 cups warm water.
- Boil pearl onions, drumstick, and tomato in tamarind water 10 minutes.
- Add cooked dal and sambar powder; simmer 10 minutes.
- Prepare tempering: heat oil, add mustard seeds, chilies, and curry leaves.
- Pour tempering into sambar; simmer 2 minutes. Adjust salt.
- Ladle generously over bowls of hot steamed rice and serve.
