Ingredients
- 1 cupsplit urad dal (black lentils)
- 1 cupbasmati or short-grain rice
- 1 tbspghee
- 1 tspcumin seeds
- 1 leafbay leaf
- 1 tspginger, grated
- 1 tspturmeric
- 1 tspsalt
- 1 cupswater
Ingredients
- 0.5 cup split urad dal (black lentils)
- 1 cup basmati or short-grain rice
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 leaf bay leaf
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 0.5 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Rinse rice and dal together; soak for 15 minutes.
- Heat ghee in a pressure cooker; add cumin seeds and bay leaf and let sizzle.
- Add ginger, turmeric, and the soaked rice-dal mixture; stir 1 minute.
- Add water and salt; pressure cook for 2 whistles on medium heat.
- Let pressure release naturally; open and stir to a creamy consistency.
- Serve hot with a drizzle of extra ghee and a side of pickle.
