  • chana dal, boiled
  • green chili, minced
  • ginger, grated
  • cumin seeds
  • amchur
  • garam masala
  • cornstarch (for binding)
  • oil
  • salt

Ingredients

  • 4 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 0.5 cup chana dal, boiled
  • 2 whole green chili, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 0.5 tsp cumin seeds
  • 0.5 tsp amchur
  • 0.5 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (for binding)
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Mix mashed potato, cornstarch, half the spices, and salt; divide into equal balls.
  2. Season the cooked chana dal with remaining spices, salt, and chili.
  3. Flatten each potato ball, add a spoonful of dal filling, seal, and flatten into a patty.
  4. Heat oil on a flat pan or tawa over medium heat.
  5. Cook tikkis 3–4 minutes per side, pressing lightly, until golden and crispy.
  6. Serve with yogurt, tamarind chutney, and green chutney.
